Behind the scenes

It's almost as fascinating to see behind the scenes of how a movie gets made as watching it. SPOILERS HERE! IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE MOVIE YET, watch it now and then come back.

1) UNDER WATER

After several attempts to film in lakes and rivers, all of which failed due to dangerous conditions, the crew and actors went to a seaside town. Unfortunately, it was the coldest, rainiest day of summer. We were the only people in the water.

2) Mud, glorious mud

The mud in the bed scenes was a bucket of made up mud: flour, poster paint, honey, water, oil, real leaves from a garden pond, and some real mud too. The water which passes from mouth to mouth came from a hose pipe which was held via a reducing tube in Kemal, the actor's mouth.
